Based on current supply, which is low to none, it appears that Epson may have withdrawn the 9890.  I had been looking closely at one.
Has anyone heard anything official?

Only 1 of the 3 suppliers I contacted had any in stock and that was (1).  And they didn't seem to think that there would be anymore available,
which surprised me as there has been no withdrawal notice that I am aware of by Epson.

I think that would be highly doubtful. It's pretty new model. When I bought mine no one had any stock. I had to order and wait. I don't think any really keeps stock of the large printers, at least not in my area.

I just bought one for $3,000.00. My understanding is that they sold really fast and places couldn't keep them in stock and they didn't have enough to go around. They many have done exactly what Canon did, lower the price point where they didn't have enough units to keep everyone supplied in the beginning. That had better be the case or I won't unpack mine :-). Let's hope they got the pressurized cart situation straightened out with this model.

If I can ask, which reseller did you use, as 3K is a very good price even with the instant rebates that expire tomorrow.

Thanks

Epson has had issues with production of several of their printers.  The aggressive August pricing of the 4900 was due in part to constrained supplies of the 3880.

Many of Epson's models are difficult to get right now, due to the aggressive rebates of the last couple of months.  The 9890 is still available, it has not been discontinued.

The were all over the web a couple of weeks ago for $3,000.00 US. A quick google search turned up about 5 for that price .  I got mine from Shades Of Paper, my usual media supplier, but that was the going rate then. A lot of these places have since labeled them as out of stock and some upped the price.

But Lexjet has them right now as I write this at $3,100.00. That was essentially the price they were selling the Canon IPF 8300 for which is still currently $3300.00 and the Hpz3200 at $4,000.00

Well, mine was $5,000 so...  :(

www.alex.com also has them for 3K.

Looks like a cool printer, no more ink waste with k switching, all the gamut you could possibly need as a regular photo printer, and ultra-fast.

At least in this video. I remain dubious about the bw quality, but we'll see.

When I bought it in January $5K was a good price and I was also able to take advantage of a couple of rebates, but whatever. It's a great printer for $5K and it's even better at $3K.

There is still a bit of ink waste switching from MK to PK but it's like 1ml from one to the other and 3ml the other way. So it's still worth ganging prints by ink type but it's not like the 98XX series where you were better off with 2 printers.

Thanks, do you see any difference in dither with the new model compared to 9800 . All of those are good at 2880 uni. Just wondering if their are any changes in nozzle resolutions and performance.

It's just opinion but I think the output is better on 9890 than on the 9800 (I've used both extensively) but I haven't done any kind apples to apples comparison.
