I have that old lens, it is sharper then the 35mm. There are defish software out there and it makes it one of the widest lens on the Mamiya line up. Plus it is sharp, I used it on my P65+ and shot the Bellagio water show, in Vegas. I like Vegas, I will be back there this October. If you want to check out that lens, I will have it with me.

What about the Hasselblad 30mm fisheye.
Have anybody tried it with a high res digital back?

Will the fisheyes generally not be so good on with
these backs? It's not much talking about fisheyes anymore..

I got the 30mm Hass too and I too thought it would be sharper, surprise, no. The Mamiya is much sharper and cheaper. Some of the fisheyes are very sharp.

Jack Flesher on GetDPI did a story about the 24mm a while back (year/years?) where he showed a full-fisheye frame, followed by one corrected for distortion.

I got the Mamiya 24mm ULD fisheye during the summer, and used it a little with my 645AFD and 37x37 mm digital back, and also on an EOS 5DII. Apart from the extra angular coverage, I was expecting some image quality improvement over my "very good sample" MC Arsat 30mm fisheye, but I didn't get some improvement - I got a lot of improvement  ;D - at the wider apertures and the further off-axis field points. I'm delighted with how sharp and unabberrated it is, even wide open at f4, even towards the corners. My DB's 9 micron pixels certainly don't challenge it at f4 or f5.6 - it laughs that off with a sneer - "9 microns, is that the best you've got?!"...abundant colour aliasing (moire) in the plane of focus proves this. It would perform even better on a 6-7 micron pixel back.

One thing I can't comment on, though, is how it fares closer to the perimeter of a 645 frame; my sensors are not big enough and I haven't tested it on film yet.

Henrik,

Do you know which different models of the Mamiya 24mm f4 lens there were ? I managed to buy a well used second hand one here in the UK and found an instruction leaflet for it on eBay.  The leaflet talks of four filters LB-A (81C),  SL-1B (Skylight), Y48 (Yellow) and O56 (Orange).  The lens only has three filters on the ring.  These are SL1B, LB-A and LB-B. Given that I am using a digital back I'm not sure it makes much difference so the question arises out of general interest rather than anything else.  Both lens and leaflet are marked "ULD C". Thanks.

Didn't realise there was a 3-filter version. Mine is a 4-filter, but I've seen another version with 4 (I think) filters, at least 1 of which was named differently to mine.

A 24mm Mamiya fisheye appeared on KEH for $1500 yesterday - and sold within hours.

That's about 30% more than I paid several months ago (Ffordes in the UK).

There seems to be pent-up demand for them!

There should be a demand for that lens, after defish, that lens is wider and just as sharp or sharper then any other wide angle lens. I used it on my Leaf 12 and it kick ass, at 80 meg pix.
