Marshall V-LCD50 HDMI Monitor
« on: September 15, 2011, 01:01:48 pm »

Hi,

A couple questions about this review:

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/marshall_v_lcd50_portable_monitor.shtml

Regarding the on/off switch location, I've seen two different versions, the one in the LL review linked above, and this one:

http://philipbloom.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/cinemasupplies_2125_14879786-1.jpeg

Does anyone know if the monitor shown on Bloom's site is a newer version? It seems to have an on/off switch that is better protected.

Also, does anyone know who manufactures the ballhead clamp attached to the tripod in the LL review (attached to the Gitzo tripod leg)?

Thanks!

Jon

Not that you asked but I have to say, I owned the Marshall V-LCD70XP, the V-LCD50 and the SmallHD DP6. Hands down the DP6 is just superior. I sold both Marshalls. Still use the DP6 regularly and would buy it again

I have a the original 5" Marshall, as well as a 6.5". The 6.5" is HD, & designed to be viewed outdoors, so I'll be holding onto it, but I never loved the 5", & only picked it up as backup. While overall I've been happy with the Marshalls, they produce a soft image, & there seem to be better options available today.

My next monitor will likely be TV Logic's 5.6" VFM-056WP. It's supposedly based on the same screen as the SmallHD DP6, but has many more features. I've seen both attached to an Alexa at the same time, & the TV Logic's colors looked better, & more closely matched the larger Panasonic broadcast monitors.

Abel Cine Tech blogged about this monitor, but missed some features, such as the ability to enlarge any section of the  screen, & not just the center, with 1:1 Focus Assist.

The reason I'm holding off is two part. I generally prefer Zacuto's EVF, especially outdoors, & Mitch Gross of Abel Cine Tech stated there's some new professional monitoring device coming to market soon, but he was unsure of the timetable. I'm hoping for an EVF with HD resolution

That new EVF he was talking about might be ...

Mitch Gross wrote, "Something totally different no one knows about and will be really sweet", & "... a professional solution for viewing, and that's as much as you're gonna get from me for now!"
