Thanks for posting those shots, Brian.  I particularly like the one with the water.  I hope to be down in Death Valley in a month or so and will be curious as to what I will find after all the rain that has been falling.  You are fortunate to be able to visit so frequently.

I enjoyed the images.  Fine examples of the pleasure and benefit of returning to the same place many times.

Gordon,

Gorgeous photos! I've just moved Death Valley up my list of must-get-to places. Thanks for sharing.

I've been lucky to have visited Death Valley when the Salt Flats have been in quite variable conditions...and am wondering what other conditions others may have experienced there. Here's what I've seen over the past three months:

1) Typical, pure white salt flats with geometric ridges;

2) Water over the white flats with ridges;

3) grooves where the ridges were, after a recent flooding event.

Have you seen anything else unusual out on the Salt Flats?

Cheers,  Brian

I was there for a week in early November.  You can see some of the shots I took at this Pbase site.

I've since compiled the better images from my week in Death Valley into a pdf 'folio

This is a 17Mb download, so painful on a dial-up link.  I'd invite you to take a look.
