Lemon Fizz
« on: September 05, 2011, 07:54:51 am »

A while ago I was experimenting with my Canon close up filter and zoom lens and it is amazing what you can do with a slice of lemon, a  glass vase and some fizzy water, as I drank a couple of G&T's waiting for the BBQ to warm up.

Comments welcome..

I think that an idea like this might benefit from having the background well lit, and perhaps experimenting with different colors. Black doesn't work that well, at least not for me.

Fair comment - and now you mention it, I have to agree. Perhaps a warm red or even a lime green might have worked better, but as I say, it was just a bit of an experiment and the only back drop I had to hand at the time, was the back of my jacket slung over a chair behind the vase.

And you were drinking gin, of course, which while hugely enjoyable, seldom (in my experience) serves to sharpen critical faculties.

As an experiment, it's a success, I think.

Good experiment.
You might want to try replacing the black by another color in Photoshop to see what happens.

Yes I will have a play with it tonight, it will be a good masking skills exercise.

In fact if anyone else out there would also like to try and see how they get on with changing the background on this image, from black to lime green or red etc, then here is a slightly bigger version to play with - only one I have I am afraid, as I must have deleted the original, although I am sure it will be on one of my backup drives somewhere.

And here is another one in a similar vein, still on the back garden but on another sunny day and no BBQ or gin involved this time (honest), but still experimenting with the same bottle of fizzy water and my close up filter. Only difference was that I just left the strawberry to stand for a while this time, to let the bubbles clear.

The strawberry really works for me. I think this whole fizzy-fruit idea could produce an interesting series.

I was only mildly convinced with your lemon slice shot but the strawberry image is a very good image. Keep them coming...
Bravo!

Tried a quick background colour swap and also bumped up the colour in the lemon a bit to give it a bit more zing.

What do you think Slobodan, does it work with either of these colours better than the black backgound?

Well, I'm not Slobodan (by any stretch of the imagination) but I don't think either of the different colours improves it at all.
