Mamiya 645 ULD 105-210 AF Problem
« on: August 30, 2011, 06:35:31 am »

Hi,
I have bought a used 105 210 AF lens for my Mamiya 645 AFd.
It was sold as "mint", however on arrivel strange things happen...

First: It freeses my camera. It can't be switched on or off. On my spare AFd it works.
Firmware problem in the camera or lens???

Second and major problem: The focus ring acts as a switch. Pulling it to the front enables the AF. Back is MF.
However in the AF position, the display shows MF most of the time. Only pulling the ring firmly helps for a while.

There must be a bad contact under the ring.
Any adea if this is easy to fix?
Does someone know if the focus ring can be taken of easy?

Sorry for my English.

Hello,

I bought and second hand Mamiya 105-210 lens some years ago and the AF didn’t work. I sent it to the New Zealand reps and it was discovered to have a faulty circuit board in the lens.
It was then sent to Mamiya in Japan where it was repaired and now works perfectly.
So my bargain turned out not to be.

Cheers

Switch you body focus switch to AFS or AFC (it is on the lower right front). Better yet, read your manual and it will reward you.

@Simon,
thank you for this information. This means that the circuit board, however it is well hidden inside, is a delacate part that can be broken during transport?

@Jack,
do I have to switch the camera on to make it work?

Could be as simple as a firmware upgrade for the lens
I sent mine back to MAC group for the upgrade and cleaning about $200

"@Jack,
do I have to switch the camera on to make it work?"

Yes, the body must be switched to "AF C" or "AF S" and the lens set to auto focus for auto focus to work, on a Mamiya 645 AFD. I don't know about later models. When the body is set to either of the AF modes the lens can be switched to manual without changing the body to "M" to enable manual focus.

Sorry for the delay in answering.

Nothing helps.
I'm afraid that it's a bad contact in the lens.
Is there a way to get a copy of the service manual?
Or is it easy to reach the faulty contact? Maybe lifthing the rubber of the focus ring?

It was send with USPS and insured. I made a claim. Do you think they will pay for it?
