Interesting shots at Bodie

Once or twice a year, the Friends of Bodie have a photo day.  You can pay to enter just before sunrise and stay until just after sunset.  You cannot go inside any buildings not usually open.

Workshops are allowed both special hours and access to buildings but can be pricey.

My best effort there was in March.  Very cold wih snow and wind.  Not many people.  The snow and b&w film produced well for me.

Lance Keimig is leading a workshop into Bodie at night in late July.  It's aimed at night photographers, but sunset photographers would be more than welcome.

See The Night Skye for details.

Howard:  Thank you very much for the kind words

Ray:  Thank you too!  The interesting thing about these buildings is that they lean against each other for real anyway.  While my 24 was pointed upward slightly it was not a great deal...  I guess I could take a bit of it out, but I think their lean is part of the charm.

What do folks do about getting decent shots at Bodie? The park hours during the summer at 8am - 7pm and similarly 'un-photogenic' during the off season. I enjoyed the best part of the day this week under ok but contrasty light. I'd prefer to do the cliched sunrise/sunset though.

What are folks doing to get access at better light times?

Thanks Howard.

I figured that there had to be some special access for the early/late shots.

I was in Yosemite in early March this year but unfortunately couldn't get across to Bodie in the few days I was in the area due to 120/Tioga pass and Rte 108 being closed due to the weather. Oh well, next time I'll plan on it specially and come up/down from Tahoe or Bishop.

Yes! Nice atmosphere, the end of the day, warm invitation, interesting sky. But I wonder! How would this look with a bit of perspective correction? Or do you think that's part of the charm?  :)
