Epson 7900 replacement?
« on: August 25, 2011, 05:39:10 am »

Hi

I'm thinking about bying an Epson 7900. But the model is more than 2 years old. Does any body have an idea if Epson will replace this model soon? So I would be better off waiting some moths?

As someone has said on here in the past:  Those who know can't tell and those who tell can't know.

Bob gave the only answer possible.  The rest is speculation.

Instead of answering we could ask questions:
What in your opinion could be improved in the 7900 for your print jobs?
Do you need a 24" printer soon?

Discounting 4900's by so much might be an indication of new 900 models coming out.  Why else would they do that?

Competition maybe, Canon have been pricing their units pretty low trying to get market share. Part of the reason I have a 8300 sitting next to me.

The 4900 was the last in the line of x900 models to be introduced, it is unlikely that it will be the first to be replaced. Be aware that it is priced lower now in the US and not in Europe.  It is possible that the expected sales did not happen, the competition was limited to Epson's own 3880 and the Canon iPF5100 (both with lower prices) but the market may just not be big enough for yet another model. HP did not fill in that 17" market segment after the Designjet 90, a much older design.

Why? HMM Maybe because "the Customer" is trained to buy when there are rebates..Well In July there wasnt any .. So HMMM.. Lets see There are no 3880 regular editions to be found..( Parts Shortage )Hmmm So Lets see well July was and is traditionally the slowest month in this business..Maybe they needed to Sell something!! Oh Yea and Lets Remember Epson Really is an Ink company That sells a consumable paper and machine..

So If you are planning on a 4900 purchase I would do it now as it doesnt get any better tha a 1K Instant Rebate ( No Mail In ) As for the others We have had this size of an Instant rebate before and will probably see again down the road!

Cheers
