my eyes keep resting on the stone post and the doorway. Everything else seems too disruptive and distracting.

Yes, and there's a slight lean to the left as well.  Too many elements in the image for me.

Michael, I have to agree. The thing that bothers me most is the interference between the horizontal white mortar lines in the stones and the angled rods in the metal structure in front of them. Mike's right. Too many elements in the image, and too much fighting between them.

Agree, too many lines leading in all kind of directions and not helping the viewer to explore the image. The B&W probably already simplified it somewhat vs. a colour version but not enough.

Michael,

To me, when I look at the picture all I see is the bike (almost like an advertisement). If that was the intention - then everything else detracts from it.

I'm sure it was not your intention to do an advert for the bike, in which case, would it not have been better to get more of the the scene into the picture? More of the gate standing a little further away?
