Locking Out 9900
« on: August 11, 2011, 01:30:55 pm »

I have a very specific reason for wanting to "Lock Out" my 9900, since I'll be taking some time away from the business and suspect others may try using it I my absence. I'll be leaving explicit instructions to the contrary, but I'd like to have a way of making that an impossible task, should anyone try. I was thinking perhaps something in Service Mode, but haven't had an opportunity to check that out yet. If anyone has an answer to this question I'd be eager to have it, and it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Cover the contacts on one of the carts with a piece of film and replace it.  Printer will think it's missing a cart and will not print.  I have not tried this, just an idea.

Just take the 110 plug, or an ink cart or two.

Dan's got it except the power cord is universal, no? I'd replace a couple of carts with empty carts and lock up the full ones.

I wouldn't remove any ink carts (although putting in empties would prolly be ok) but I would remove the maintenance tanks...won't print without them and it would do the machine no harm since the tanks are open to the air inside.

Thank you all for the replies. I had thought of the cart replacement scenario, but the maintenance tank removal somehow sounds better to me. I guess I was over-thinking the situation and made it more difficult than necessary.

Thanks again,
Gary

Just a thought, but the 9900 is susceptible to clogs if it's not being used regularly - maybe you actually do want it to be used while you're away!

Maybe you can work out an arrangement where you get paid for its use while you are away, based on the service life logs for total ink usage or pages printed? Again, just a thought.

Pull the fuse and its holder!!

Place a cloth or fabric soaked with cleaning fluid under the printhead. A definite must.

Place a plastic coated bicycle chain around the print bed

Place a plastic Cover over the unit and several saturated towels underneath to maintain a high local humidity.

Check your insurance policy concerning damage, vandalism or theft-now check it again!

I don't know what your status is in this business but if you are this worried I'm worried.

good luck  irv weiner

Just to add!
If you work along side these folks as equals, probably nothing you can or should do as they may be entitled to use the printer just like you.
If your the boss and they only work for you that's a different story. Just tell everyone the printer has a page counter and is off limits while you are gone. If someone uses it everyone in the office will have to answer to you.
I am assuming these are adults and they respect the boss?
