Store site is untrustworthy according to WOT!
« on: August 10, 2011, 02:06:28 pm »

Hello,
FYI:
I'm trying to 'update' to the Camera to Print 2, trying to purchase it.
However, when going to the card processing site,
Web Of Trust is saying that the site has an untrustworthy rating.
Guess I will send in a request to purchase via PPal,,,

As a user, I occasionally use WoT, without really knowing much about it. The above made me curious, so I went and looked.

WOT Payments

Looks like WOT seals are for sale.

Somehow, the worthiness of this application just dropped significantly.

Not sure what you are talking about: WOT ranks LL as "excellent" on all trust metrics.

But even if it wasn't untrustworthy, credit card is a safer method than Paypal. You get instant refund from VISA/AMEX/etc. if you dispute a charge, while with Paypal a refund is iffy at best and can take weeks. Also, you are not liable for fraudulent charges if your CC is compromised through a website, but again, with Paypal you are at the whims of their customer service.

I talk from experience on both ends: had a 2100 EUR disputed charge on Paypal and they basically said screw you. Fortunately after 18 months I was able to get a refund.

This was really meant as a FYI only posting for the webmaster.
Not a scare tactic, nor slander thing.

I have just recently added WOT to FireFox.
I have in the past ordered many items from the LULA store before using WOT.

BTW, more information for the webmaster:
Everything is okay until I get to the point of entering CC info.
That's the site WOT does not like.

It likely says more about how popularity contests like WOT work (or do not). Internet Secure/Elavon is about as security conscious, trustworthy and safe as you will likely find on the web - certainly more secure than most financial sites. The security demands of transaction information lead to a higher rate of Declined Transactions since the information entered by a customer has to be an almost exact copy of the information the card holder has on file with the card issuer.

These Declined Transactions lead to customer complaints and thus the lower popularity.

WOT rating is a very poor indication of trustworthiness but a better indicator of popularity.
