Subject says it all ... but I suppose the same holds true for green and blue too...

Does the impact of light received through a colour based filter make an appreciable difference to the data collected such that the algorithms used by LR, etc, generate better (or worse?) B&W photographs?

Using the B&W Mix controls in Lightroom (or similar) is more effective and less hassle. Also, this way you can use more than one filter at the same time, a green and a red for example, something that would be impossible with glass filters on a camera.
