NEC 2490WuXi-2 or NEC PA241W?

These are the two options I have:

It looks like this is a wide gamut monitor.

It's not advertised as a wide gamut display.

The PA241W seems to have a "display port" that enables it to receive more colors from the computer than the 2490 with its DVI input.

The PA241W would probably mean to buy a new calibration option or use my dtp-94 and not get that precise a calibration.

Monitor will be used as an external monitor to a (still to be purchased) Apple MacBook Pro 15".


The price difference will be $170, and the more modern version will make it necessary to buy calibration software at least.

PA241W is much better than 2490WUXi2. The PA series is significally improved, has more features, better controls with more precision, useful Multiprofiler software etc. You need NEC Spectraview II calibration software in both cases to make automatic hardware calibration, in case of wide gamut PA241W display NEC custom matted sensor is also recommended (SVII kit).

If you want normal gamut display, consider PA231W or wait for new P241W (same as PA241W, but with normal gamut panel+backlight)

Thanks, Czorny, there's also the new displayport connection in the 241 while the 2490 has the old dvi which is on its way out.
