Distant rain in the Foothills
« on: July 25, 2011, 03:01:19 pm »

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, southern Alberta.

Questions & comments welcome, best I could manage in a drizzle being hurried along by my better half  ;)

Maybe only those who've been in the sunny Alberta prairies/foothills will 'get' the serenity and quietness of a rolling, misty rain shower over the grass.

This one has a 'redundant' feature (trees), but shows the rolling landscape in an appealing.  Thinking I should crop off some empty sky, this is still full-frame.  Maybe it's too empty/boring to be appealing.  Maybe not.

To me, #1 &2 have some visual interest. In #1 i would have tried to frame the forground trees out because they have a lot of weight and to me are distracting from the prairie below.  The context of the picture - "Buffalo Jump" is what makes them for me.  They could work as part of a series. i find it tough to do much with #3 because the tones are so diffuse in the approaching rain. Maybe an artistic interpretation rather than a straight photo ?
