Puzzled about 2 Sigma wide angle zooms.
« on: July 16, 2011, 05:13:44 pm »

Sigma makes two 12-24mm f4.5-5.6 zooms and I cannot figure out why one costs more than the other - it seems it should cost less.

The 12-24mm f4.5-5.6 DG HSM II (http://www.sigmaphoto.com/shop/12-24mm-f4.5-5.6-dg-hsm-ii1) has an MSRP of $1400.

The 12-24mm f4.5-5.6 EX DG ASP HSM (http://www.sigmaphoto.com/shop/12-24mm-f45-56-ex-dg-asp-hsm-sigma) has an MSRP of $1150.

It was my impression that the EX code designated Sigms's premium lens line, and the ASP means aspherical element, a more sophisticated optical design. Yet that lens is $250 cheaper. What am I missing?

Thanks,

Scroll down to the product overview section on Sigma's page for the 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 II DG HSM and it explains the differences between that one and the older one.
