Fast Large Format lens query
« on: July 15, 2011, 12:38:50 pm »

I am looking for a lens to put on my Mamiya Auto Bellows N, the one with movements. Currently I have a Schneider Symmar-S 135mm lens adapted to it. I am looking for a faster alternative, rather to make focussing easier, my usual working f-stop is in the 5,6-8 range, working distance is roughly 1m. I'd prefer something a bit shorter, maybe 100-110mm with a f-stop of f4 or better, infinity focus is not needed. Any suggestions?

Most large format lenses have a maximum aperture of f5.6 or worse. There are a few f4.5 lenses, like the Rodenstock Grandagon 90mm. Some of the Rodenstock and Schneider "digital" lenses have f4 or 4.5 max apertures, but they have much smaller image circles than traditional LF lenses.

A few minutes ago I managed to acquire a Rodenstock Linhof 1:2,8/100 mm Linhof-Technikon.
It was made for the Press 70, so as it is covering 6x7 a bit of movement should be possible, and stopped down two or three stops should give decent image quality. I'll see....
