Keeping up with ink levels on the IPF8300
« on: July 08, 2011, 11:34:52 am »

I must be missing something....is there some easy way to monitor the exact ink levels on the 8300? I'm on a Mac and I'm not seeing any level description in the driver or the PS plug in I use. I'm really spoiled with the HP showing me exactly how many ml are left in each channel.

Not that I know of.  The gradations in the ink levels are pretty coarse:

If someone has different information, I will update the Wiki FAQ for the 8300.

Thanks John.

That's weird isn't it 20% ( maybe 10% on the printer screen) increments.

I'm certainly not going to complain too much tough. They've done everything else right on, including that plug-in that is the most straight forward interface I've ever seen.

"Easy" he wants. Easy there is not but if you go to the status monitor, select the accounting tab and open the accounting manager, under File select "show ink and paper consumed" you will get ink and  paper consumption. This will have different values than the "jobs on printer" ink use (w. does not show cleaning/loading/etc). Here's the readout from mine just now:

Total Ink Consumed[ml] 980
PC (Photo Cyan) Ink Consumed[ml] 68
C (Cyan) Ink Consumed[ml] 74
MBK (Matte Black) Ink Consumed[ml] 120
Y (Yellow) Ink Consumed[ml] 78
M (Magenta) Ink Consumed[ml] 74
PM (Photo Magenta) Ink Consumed[ml] 70
R (Red) Ink Consumed[ml] 75
G (Green) Ink Consumed[ml] 71
B (Blue) Ink Consumed[ml] 69
PGY (Photo Gray) Ink Consumed[ml] 70
GY (Gray) Ink Consumed[ml] 114
BK (Black) Ink Consumed[ml] 97
Total Sheets of Paper Consumed [Converted to A4 Size] 572
No. 1 most consumed paper: Lyve Canvas[m²] 14.96
No. 2 most consumed paper: Harman gloss FB[m²] 9.23
No. 3 most consumed paper: Epson Semigloss[m²] 5.61
No. 4 most consumed paper: Hahnemuhle rag[m²] 2.43
No. 5 most consumed paper: Unknown[m²] 0.81
No. 6 most consumed paper: HW Glossy Photo Paper[m²] 0.62
No. 7 most consumed paper: Fine Art Watercolor[m²] 0.62
Paper consumption: Others[m²] 1.37

Easy, not.
Now you know how much/little I've been doing.

Is the IPF8300 fairly frugal with ink?  I plan to print about 5,000 square feet in the next year so I put up for sale the second set of inks I have, thinking I won't need them anytime soon and that the set included with the printer will be enough for the first year use.

Is the "total ink consumed" the ink used for printing, cleaning and filling the lines?

I show 1384 ml consumed and about 300ml used for printing in the accounting manager? does this mean I have consumed 1000 ml for startup and cleaning anf 300 ml for printing?

I thought that Accounting Manager only worked on PC and not Mac? My Mac Printer Monitor does not tell me anything about the ink consumption. I have to load it up on a PC boot to get that info.

BTW, it gives both how much has been consumed for the job (like 100ml) and how much has been consumed totally to fill the lines and cleaning (700ml).
