Printing on Ceramic Tiles
« on: June 30, 2011, 12:32:58 pm »

I recently attended a show that featured images that were printed on ceramic tile.  The look and faithfulness of the printed tile was very impressive.  Do any of you experts out there have any information on this?  I print on a 3880.  Thanks for your help.

I believe most of this is done with dye sublimation. Print with special dye sublimation inks on special transfer paper that is heat pressed on specially treated tiles.

I saw some outstanding prints made on ceramic tile a couple of weeks ago and indeed, they were done using dye sublimation. However, if you're interested in trying your hand at this using an inkjet you can find an inkjet transfer methodology and supplies here. . .

I picked up Bonnie's book and I think I will try out some of her methods. However, I don't expect the prints quite as rich and vivid as the dye sub ones I saw.
