Canon 1DsII has changed it's file naming format
« on: June 24, 2011, 04:53:33 am »

My Canon 1DsII has recently started to rename the Raw files so that the usual underscore at the beginning of the file is being substituted with an X. I've never had anything like this happen before and I can't think of anything I might have done which could have caused this but it's completely messing up my filing system. Does anybody know how this is happening and how to put it right? I've tried formatting the card and this problem still exists so it doesn't look like simple file corruption.

Thanks

Ashley

The underscore is an indication of your choice to produce in-camera JPEGs with the Adobe RGB colorspace. When you changed it to (the default) sRGB colorspace, then the original first letter of the 8 position naming convention appeared instead of the underscore.

Thanks Bart. I've just checked the camera though and the colour matrix was still set on standard, which I had setup as Adobe RGB and I verified this was still the case. I only ever shoot Raw and never bother with Jpegs. Am I missing something here?

Hi Ashley,

I don't know. What I do know is that the underscore replacing the first character in the filename, indicates the use of Adobe RGB. So it somehow has to do with that.

It has no effect on the Raw data, other than perhaps when you open the file in a Raw processor because the embedded thumbnail will be converted to your workingspace from a different colorspace.

Cheers,
Bart

If I recall my Mark II correctly, the "Standard" color space is sRGB and overrules any other choices.

If all you shoot is raw, no problem.
