site ate my post
« on: June 21, 2011, 10:58:08 pm »

Just spent 15-20 min writing a reply to a post in another topic, hit "post" and it disappeared. I apparently had timed out during my (I know) somewhat lengthy writing process. Is that the cause or is something else going on? Anything to prevent this? I know, write faster  ;), but I was working on the OP's image to try to answer his question. Rob P

Just hit the "back" key which should take you to the post.  Copy it and then log back in, pasting the response.

Ha, I got that just minutes ago as well.  Taught me a lesson for thinking too much about what I was writing.

As mentioned, backspacing usually returns you to your missive.  And I always copy my text before so much as clicking "Preview."

But that's nothing compared to this miserable new keyboard that has a button or some easily-fumbled-into key combination that simply closes the browser without asking, and I don't know what it is!

And I just got the darned time-out AGAIN!  Once it's tasted blood, there's no stopping it.

In windows hit "ctrl"+A and the "ctrl"+C before you post.
Even if all the backspacing etc. doesn't work you still got the post on your clipboard.

Don't know what the sequence on a MAC is, but probably very similar

An associated problem is the tiny space within which the post has to be written; once the message gets below the line, seeing where you are, what you're saying, correcting or anything else is impossible. The solution? Write in Word or something, and then copy/post.

It's not the LL Forum's fault, it is an issue with Win 7 and IE. On my XP desktop in the Office, the text scrolls smoothly however much you type.

You obviously don't know that there is a hidden censor in the forum software. If it doesn't like what it sees it automatically junks the post.  ;)

If that's the case, you can add Vista to the list.

Don't get that with Vista + Firefox, it creates a vertical scroll bar when I effuse myself out of the box.  And Firefox has a built in spell-checker.

Didn't think of the "back" button.
Think I will work in Word if I have anything involved.
Good ideas, all. Thanks.

Type a word - any word - and hit preview and you will have plenty of space to finish your post. ; Or you can just try and be brief? :D

Any more brief than I already am and there's be nothing to post! Maybe that's what finally happened to Dark Penguin? Vanished into his own one-liners? He used to be fun, nice sense of humour - sorry he disappeared.

You can always try "+1"   :)

(For those that can't figure it out, that means "ditto." One fewer keystrole than "+1."

"

Why bother with " when ' would work as well (one less key to hold down)!
