Identifying LaChapelle's work?
« on: June 07, 2011, 02:07:38 pm »

I've had a certain prop up in my loft for a couple years.  The gentleman I acquired it from told me that he used to be David LaChapelle's set builder in the 90's before he achieved his current levels of meteoric fame.  It is a full sized wooden soapbox car (I'm 6'2" and I can just about squeeze into it) and he told me it was built to be used in one of his ads from early in his career, possibly for an insurance (or some other corporate type business) advertisement.

I'd like to confirm that it was actually LaChapelle's and more importantly, find the ad that it was used for. Anyone have any ideas or leads?  I've sent an e-mail to LaChapelle's agent but never heard back.

I suppose this qualifies to be in the MF forum because it was most certainly originally photographed on MF gear :)

I think your car may be more valuable than you think; forget David, think the original model for the chassis for the Model A.

I can't quite tell if you're being serious or not.  I haven't spent too much time on LL in the past year and have forgotten who the notorious trolls are :)

Not really of much use to you but it looks very similar to one used by Erik Almas in a small series of images he produced, they're under his "lifestyle" images on his website -
