New member needs help with i1Match and Win7
« on: May 25, 2011, 05:40:50 pm »

Hi everybody. I'm new here but have been around on other photo forums for a while. I'm posting here because LL seems to have a very robust color management forum.

I recently bought a new-unused i1 Photo from an acquaintence. I got it yesterday and verified that it was complete. The software was even still sealed in its original sleeve. It's a Rev D device. I downloaded the Win7 capable version of i1Match and i1Diagnostics from the X-Rite site and installed (as Administrator). Plugged in the i1Pro. Device identified and drivers installed successfully. Win7 Device Manager shows the device is operating properly.

i1Match shows none of the modules are unlocked. I called X-Rite and tech support verified that my device should be license-enabled for three of the modules (Monitor, RGB, and CMYK). I tried the i1Pro on the front USB ports, rear USB ports (both are MB based powered ports), and even on a powered hub. No luck anywhere. X-Rite tech support is closed for the day.

Can anyone help?

X-rite can certainly provide a code to unlock them. You’ll probably need to download a utility for this but once done, they can handle this. Why its locked I can’t say. Very odd.

Thanks Andrew. The fellow at X-Rite (Bruce, I think), did indicate there were a number of things which could be looked at if the easy things didn't pan out. But that would have required getting in touch with him again, which I will have to try to do tomorrow (if I can get home in time). I'm hoping that if I get to work early and nothing ties me up in the afternoon I'll be able to touch base with him and maybe try one or two more ways to fix what's happening.

And I am hoping that if nothing works, he'll be able to offer that last ditch recovery code.

Would you happen to know what Emergency Restore does in i1Diagnostics?

I don’t, never tried that. But what do you have to lose?

You are in good hands with Bruce!

Turning my i1Pro into a brick! :D Well, maybe I'll give it a try.

Well then we will get Bruce to send you a new one <g>.

Did he suggest this? I can’t see how it would hose the hardware.

At the time I was speaking with him on the phone he hadn't mentioned it.

But I gave it a try. It doesn't do what I thought it would. When I picked the option it opened up a file manager box like it was looking for some kind of file. I guess the Emergency Restore maybe reprograms the sensor, assuming there is some kind of stored file backup. I was hoping it would reset the sensor to some sort of initial state.

Ahem, well... I now have an operating i1Pro.

Actually, I always did. Amazing how easily one can mistake the Profile Editor button with the 'right hand next button'. ::) What confused me was that I saw RGB and CMY as unlicensed in i1Diagnostics and my eyes just went past everything else. In my own defense, I bought what I thought was an i1 Photo Pro (new old stock). It turns out I got an i1 Photo LT. Not happy about that at all, considering the place where I bought it from advertized it as an i1 Photo Pro and has a no return policy. On the one hand I'm happy I got the bundle for what turns out to have been a very good price, but not happy that it's not what was advertized.
