Does Virtual XP support scanners
« on: May 18, 2011, 05:11:17 pm »

Will Win XP (VM) mode in Win 7 Pro/Ultimate support scanner software with TWAIN interface? I want to use my existing Silverfast SE Plus on Canon 9950F and also Nikon Scan4, which is not compaitble with Win7 or Vista 64 bit

I meant TWAIN driver, not interface - both scanners are USB

Hi Nigel,

FWIW, according to the scanner compatibility information on the Vuescan website, the scanner is supported for that software. I didn't check for a recent Canon driver for Windows, but I assume you did.

Cheers,
Bart

Hi Bart

I know I can use Vuescan but I actually wanted to use Nikon Scan - Nikon haven't bothered to update software to work with 64 bit
Re Canon, I don't think there is any solution for V/7 64 - Vuescan doesn't work according to Bob Hamrick - even if Scangear did work, scan quality is dire. I might just have to keep old laptop alive long enough to do all remaining 6x7 scans.

I haven't got one yet because I've only just ordered new Win 7 laptop! - I was going on what nikon website says. If you are finding it works fine, that's really good news - juts leaves the Canon problem - hopefully I can get my copy of Silverfast SE Plus to work in virtual XP mode

There is no reason why it shouldn't work.
The critical point is the scanner driver.
I have a Nikon LS 9000 with a driver made by the Lasersoft guys (The Silverfast Company).
Silverfast works as well as Nikonscan 4 or Vuescan in my situation.

I don't have that scanner so can't comment on it specifically.
However, I can use my scanner, all in one printer, and photo printer in virtual XP mode under Windows7 64. It took some fussing around to install the drivers but finally got everything to work.
Don't use it much now since updated to Epson 3880.
If you use XP mode be sure to keep it updated by checking with MS every month to get security patches.
