Help . . .

Last night I changed my e-mail address in my user profile. The Forum logged me out after informing me that I would get an activation e-mail so I could get back in, but I have not received one, so I can no longer use my user name and password.

I have re-registered with this new user name and password just so I can get back in here - can you sort this out for me, please?

Chris

Many thanks.

I will have to wait till I get home to try it out, as I am on the old e-mail here at work. The reason for all this is that I retire on Friday, so I am having to change all my internet registrations to my home e-mail.

An alternative would have been to do what that chap with the razors did: buy the company.

;-(

That kind of day, I'm afraid.

John, did you not stop to think that they wanted rid of you and your pleadings to Chris made them change their minds? ;) It looks like you got lucky and retired from work at fifty, as I did. :) ;D

Yes, good luck with the retirement!

Having taken leave of my "day job" about six years ago, I say that if you have a choice between gainful employment and retirement, then retirement is definitely the way to go, IMHO.

Since I retired I've accomplished more with my photography than in the previous 40-plus years. Also in music, travel, going to concerts and plays, studying literature, and generally living the good life (at last). Go for it!

Thanks for your good wishes, chaps.

I've been in this job for nearly 27 years, so it will be quite a change. I wish I was 50, but alas no I am an old fogey and have gone the full distance. I shan't miss having to get up and drive to the office every day, but I shall miss all my colleagues who are a great bunch and have been an inspiration to work with.

Just to let you know how mad I am, I have bought myself a small retirement present - a reconditioned Weston Master IV light meter (with a brand-new cell). I already have a Master V and a Master II, so one day I will complete the set!

Old light meters are a passion of mine as well. Theye are a bit like slide rules. Show them to new photographers and they say "cool". What is it? How many megapixels?

Yes, that's the fun bit. And they are even more amazed when they see you using the thing. I spent a pleasant afternoon a few weeks back at our local heritage railway, but I didn't get that much photography done. I kept getting stopped by people who wanted to look at and find out all about the Hasselblad and my meter, which certainly was great for socialising but not so good for my concentration on the job  ;)

Dammit, Michael, I didn't realise you collected Westons as well - I bet you've got that really early art-deco job from about 1936 . . .

I've got a couple of slide rules and an abacus or two lying around, but my Weston 5 is long gone (alas!). But I still have a Pentax 1-degree spotmeter.

The Weston Master IV reminded me of one I owned some (I think) 50 years ago. It replaced the Weston Master II that my dad had used to film my homecoming (birth) in 1939.
