I am going there at the end of the month and would like to see your photographs to get location ideas. Thanks for posting.

We've been here on Oahu (Kailua, on the Windward side) for almost three years - I've been posting my pictures here: http://tinius-photo.com/Roger/  Look for Lanikai, Kailua, Makapu'u, Kaena, etc ... Google Maps knows where these placenames are ...

Things to know - it's the tropics, so the Golden Hour is rarely an hour long ... the sun goes down fast.  Find a good ephemeris page like http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html or heavens-above.com to see when the sun and moon rise ... be ready to walk a bit, but remember the sun is directly overhead at noon, and bright!

I used to live in Maunawili, right near mount olomana, which is a FANTASTIC place to see the windward side from.  It is a bit of a strenuous hike, a couple hours, but well worth it.  There are a number of great photo ops on the climb up as well as once you are at the top.  Here is a site that mentions how to get to the trail head, you will probably have it all to yourself:

Makapuu point has a neat lighthouse and is a much easier walk, on paved trails if you are looking for that.

If you are looking for nice beaches, Kailua State park is great, but just east of there is Lanikai beach, which is fantastic.  Hanauma Bay is the main attraction for snorkeling if you have underwater gear.  Of course the north shore is amazing especially when the break is happening.  There is also swimming with the dolphins on the far west shore.

There's a reason for that:

It's actually a fairly popular climb, even though Olomana is one of the scariest mountains I've seen, and it's only a mile from my house.  Pretty from down here, though ...
