Broncolor Question
« on: May 03, 2011, 02:35:05 pm »

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but I thought I would post here anyways. If I were to shoot a Grafit A4 power pack (3200) but I had 1600J pulso heads would they automatically limit them to half power, or would I have to ensure that they are not overpowered?

Hi Justin,

Broncolor used to detect the flash rating of the heads with some packs. Grafit A is only detecting the presence of the head, not its rating. So you would be able to overpower the 1600J head. The head won´t be ruined if this should happen once or twice, but it will shorten the tube life significantly if applied regulary. I won´t be worried about this combination, Grafit A is still a fantastic pack which has its main advantanges of short duration from min to app. half power. We usually never use our A4 packs with more than half energy. If you have to replace the flash tube in the future just use the higher rated tube which was redesigned for the use with the Scoro A4 packs and can withstand 90.000J per minute which is an outstanding performance.

Cheers, Ulf

Wow! thanks for the awesome and concise answer. =) I wasn't aware there were new tubes made for scoro. Running a 3200 tube in a 1600 head works alright?

Hi,

Glad I could be helpful. Yes, you can just plug in the 3200J tube. AFAIK all recent packs not read the code resistor rating, the last units were pulso / opus pack generation. These packs will limit their power output to a max of 1600J when used with an F2 lamp base. But you could have that code resistor replaced easily if this should be an issue for you.
Regarding the recent tubes (marked with an asterisk on the socket) that come with every new set since some time now and are also recommended for the older heads you can find more information here:
