DPP preview of file unmodified
« on: April 23, 2011, 10:44:19 pm »

I've noticed that when I open a file in DPP before any picture style is chosen or any edits made, most all the settings appear zeroed out, as one might expect, except that contrast is at -4 and the default picture style is standard. Is that correct? There's something seductive about the images at -4 contrast and I'm wondering if this is Canon saying "This is as honest a look at true raw that we can show."?

The settings with which DPP opens are determined by the settings for jpg processing in your camera. They are recorded in the RAW file's metadata and read by DPP (only, not third party converters). If your files are opening in DPP with Standard and -4 Contrast, it is because that is what you have set, no secret messages from Canon.
