LR won't allow access to other drives
« on: April 15, 2011, 01:46:09 pm »

I have discovered an anomaly is the LR export module. I can't seem to access other drive letters on my system for saving files if a drive letter has been removed. For instance, if drive I:\Final RGB is no longer on my system (unplugged, whatever), and I try to specify another drive and folder, LR ONLY allows me to access the Windows User folder. None of my other six drives or partitions is available to save to. I had this problem before, and thought it went away with LR3 -- but it didn't. (The only other way around is to attach a drive, call it drive I: -- or windows 7 will -- then choose a different drive and folder.

Has anyone else seen this and found a way around, other than attaching a "dummy" drive to fool Lightroom. Really maddening. See screen shots. Thanks

In your browser list, try opening "desktop." It should contain an item called "Computer," which should then list all of your current drives.

Let me know if this works.

If this is windows 7, drives are not automatically reconnected on startup, so until they are connected you can't see them to export.  Lightroom library usually has a question mark on any folder that is not readily available.

Do you know of any way to cause the reconnection except full restart?

If they are usb drives they can be hot-swapped, so if you pull the cord and then reconnect it the drive should auto-play.

In the Browse for Files and Folders, where your screenshot shows Nemo Niemann, type d:\ e:\ or whatever.

Unfortunately, the drive in question is an internal SATA.

You're missing your "Computer" shortcut off your desktop.  Recreate it and you'll see it reappear in your dropdown.
