Trip from Vancouver, BC to New York, Where should I visit?

Hi Everyone

I'm currently living in Vancouver Canada for a long photography holiday and I plan on driving from here to New York via Yellowstone national park at the end of april.

I would love to know any recommended places I should stop along the way, currently my list is this -
Start in North Cascades national park, then to Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Badlands, Chicago, new york.
Is there any great roads I should follow other than the main freeway?

The main states I am lacking any places to visit are North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and then between chicago and new york if there are any interesting places.

It can be as short as 2 weeks or as long as 3 weeks, I'm flexible. I Need to arrive in New york on the 15th may, and can leave as early as next week.

I don't think you're missing much by missing North and South Dakota Salem Sue, perhaps, but that's hardly worth the detour.

Hey maybe she is worth the detour!

It seems to me that once I've done badlands it will be straight to Chicago, but does anyone know of any great expanses of flower fields in between?

Devil's Tower; Black Hills; Dakota Badlands. After that it's prairie all the way to the river. FWIW, Larry McMurtry (author of *Lonesome Dove*) says that route 2, across the northern tier of states near the Canadian border, is the best long-distance drive in the country.

Thanks Bill that's great, especially Devils Tower that I missed!
I'm not sure I have time to make it up to route 2 after yellowstone and badlands, also will it be effected by flooding?
