Tethering Leaf AFI12
« on: April 06, 2011, 11:04:38 am »

OK so happy day. Recieved my AFI12R back to replace the AFI7. The 7 is traded in on the deal and needs to go back to Europe. Problem is the 12 does not tether using Leaf Capture software. The camera back is not an option in the drop down menu under camera configuration. I am running the latest LC software downloaded from Leaf. The newest camera offered for the AFI is the 10. Leaf Atpus12R is available but if I select that then the AFI camera is not available and the camera wont tether

A long shot since this is a newish back but anyone have any ideas?

Not sure, but i've read somewhere that some new backs needs 2.8GHz processor.
But don't take me into account, it might be about phase backs.

Yes. See the review in the British Journal of Photography.

"My new (and, as I thought) very well specified 17-inch Mac Book Pro has a 2.66GHz Core i7 processor and 8GB of Ram, but was still unable to capture when the camera was tethered. The minimum spec demands a 2.8GHz processor."

I am using a dual quadcore 2.3 with 16gigs of ram. I really dont believe that is my primary issue. If I shoot to a cf card and download via reader the files are still not recognized by LC. I am able to open them in Capture 1 only. What troubles me is that LC does not have this back on its list of supported devices.

Images are mind boggling by the way. Love the rotating sensor and the tilting LCD. The old Kodak Proback had the tilting sensor and it was a great feature.

Are you using 11.4.5? See downloads.

Martin, sounds like a preferences confusion

Trash the preferences (Applications > Leaf Capture 11.4.5 > Utilities > Double click on Reset Preferences)
Launch the software and go to Camera Configuration
From the first drop menu select Leaf AFi-II 12 (it's the last one)
From the 2nd drop menu select Leaf AFi

Connect the back as you do normally and go to work

Regarding the BJP report the tethered test took place over Christmas and the was no trouble shooting done at the time. I have an old 17" G4 1.67Ghz which works albeit very slowly...

If someone has issues connecting to a laptop we recommend using a powered hub

Hope this helps

Hello,

I have tethered with LC 11.4.5 and the Aptus 12 on an AFI with the MacBook pro 2.66 with no problems - and ardently hope not to experience any.

Thanks Yair. I am re downloading the software as I suspect I have 11.4 and not 11.4.5. there is still no AFI12R on my drop down menu, the closest is Aptus12R and it doesn't help. Will keep you posted.

No luck with that Yair. Latest software. Trashed preferences. Uninstalled old software before installing new software. The last back on the dropdown is not the AFI12R. It is the Aptus12R. When selecting the Aptus 12R there is no option on the 2nd dropdown to select an AFI camera. It defaults to a Hassleblad and AFI is not on the list. The latest AFI back on the first dropdown is the AFI10.

It seems the AFI12R is not supported on LC or am I missing something?

Received your email Yair. Thank you very much for the rapid response. I am replying here so that people can see the type of service I get from you guys at Leaf.

The mail was a great help with all the screen shots and info. I was able to identify the problem and have sorted it out. Camera is running sweetly.

This is my 5th digital back and my third Leaf. The service has always been fantastic and so it continues.

Thanks very much
