LAB Readouts in LR?
« on: April 05, 2011, 03:35:01 pm »

Hello,

I understand the rational for not having different, particular color space readouts in LR, but LAB readouts would be valuable IMO for rapidly assessing gray and brightness. Any thoughts on this? Or is it actually available already and I just haven't found it?

Thanks!

Well considering nothing is processed in Lab, considering the processing is done in ProPhoto RGB with a linear TRC gamma, just what good would having Lab values be?

If anything, having specific color space read outs WOULD be more useful than Lab because when you render the data, you end up in said color space. I’d rather have values based on what I’ll end up with. And since that’s not going to be Lab but will be ProPhoto RGB (or sRGB etc), seems more useful to have a particular RGB read out if desired (which we have in ACR).

Hello Andrew,

Well, yes, I wouldn't mind having particular color space readouts for exactly the reasons you suggest. My reason for wanting LAB readouts is that they make it easy to quickly see "grayness" and brightness, which I find much harder to evaluate in any RGB readout. . .

Best,
