Canon 350D: Any unique features?
« on: March 28, 2011, 09:58:32 pm »

I own a Canon 350D along with lenses.
I want to sell it for Rs 12,500 (US$ 280.00) to someone in New Delhi, India. Now before I do, I want advise from all of you out there with more experience than I have, if the Canon 350D has some unique features that I don't know about and shall miss when I buy a new Canon (500D or 550D etc)

Interesting. Not a single reply to this one. Was it something I said (or did not say?)

Perhaps nobody around here has made that same transition?

I've used a 350D but I can't remember any special feature that wouldn't be on the newer models.
I'd say go ahead, sell your 350D and buy a new 500D or 550.

Just remember that the memory card format is different (CF for 350D and SD for 500D/550D):

Hey, thanks a lot. Francois, EduPerez. I really needed to be pointed to that difference in memory card format.
Question: Is there a limit as there is in computers. For instance, we have to find out if a Pentium 4 processor and compatible mother board can handle a memory of 400 plus GB or not.
Similarly, do we have to check for cameras?
I would like to insert a 32 GB memory card in my Canon 350D. Will it work?
Thanks

Guess : it should work, but don't even think of formatting it in the camera (it will shrink it to 8GB and recovery is tricky).
At least that's the way my 300D, and I think the 20D, handle CF bigger than 8GB.

My current 2GB memory card had been pre-formatted when I bought it and stuck it inside the camera in the shop itself. Will there be similar pre-formatted stuff for 32GB?

I  made the move from the 350 to  later Canon and except for the memory card difference there is nothing that I noticed. I found the 350 useful for a backup camera and for a camera to take places (like in my kayak when the weather is sort of bad) that I don't want to take my new camera. All lenses from the 350 work find on the new camera.

I still have a 350D I use as a backup and it will not read 32 G CF cards.

I haven't used one so no clues, but in answer to this question, but you might find questions answered more readily if they are posted in the correct forum ... your question isn't really "about this site".

Why Wayne Fox, I thought this site was about gathering information about cameras and lenses and that is what my question is all about, right? Or am I missing something?

Thanks, Les, Dave. So Dave you think I should avoid a 32 GB CF memory card and settle for 16 GB CF for my 350D, right?

I don't have a 16 G card to test. Biggest I have used is 4 G and, for the 350D, that is plenty.

I agree with Dave. 4 GB is plenty for the 350.

The forum is divided by subjects including one called "Cameras, Lenses, and Shooting Gear".  Most users only scan the forums which apply to our interests, so putting a question in the correct forum will get it in front of more users that may be able to help.  As an example, I only scan this forum every few days (if that often),  but I look at the one I mentioned at least once a day, and sometimes more.

It also makes searching for useful information easier as you can restrict searches to appropriate subjects.

Just trying to help ... looks like  you got some useful information.

Thanks so much, Wayne. What you say makes sense. However, I never noticed this segmentation in the site until you pointed it out to me.

Not trying to be mean but I would have thought a drop down list at the beginning during the posting a new topic stage would automatically segregate the queries. But this site could add that in future..... A suggestion floating in mid air if you please
