[font color=\'#000000\']You'll be taking one of the gondola trips to the high country with the family, I'm sure, so I won't comment on that. It's a must-do.
In and around Whistler are dozens of local opportunities, especially near the lake shore. Small creeks offer lots of challenges, too.
Outside the immediate Whistler Village area, there are lots of opportunities for landscape work. All of them will require a vehicle.
Callahan Lake, west of Whistler is a pretty mountain vista. Good in the AM. Probably a good hour from town to the lake. Some basalt formations on the way.
Cheakamous Canyon (an hour south of Whistler, back towards Squamish) offers good mountain/river possiblities and good views of the Tantalus Range, quite pretty in clear light. (AM)
Black Tusk Meadows is a day-trip hike into the high alpine. Should be excellent right about now. Really amazing scenery there.
If you can hike to Garibaldi Lake, you won't believe your eyes. This is a glacial-flour lake, incredible turquoise colour and quite amazing surrounding glaciers. Not for the faint of heart or the young of age unless they're really into hiking.
North of Whister about 45 minutes is the Pemberton Valley, a wide, flat, agricultural lake-bottom valley with spectacular mountain surroundings.
Beyond Pemberton is Duffey Lake, a mountain pass lake with National Park quality scenery. Go as far as Duffey Lake and return. This is a long trip, half a day at least.
Seriously consider leaving Whistler and returning to Vancouver via this road through Pemberton, Lillooet, Lytton and Hope. This will take several hours longer than the Howe Sound Route but will be well worth it. Incredible diversity of scenery in a short time. Even if you don't stop to shoot, the views out the windshield are great. Rainforest to Alpine to desert grasslands.
Good shooting!
