Tom, it must be the time differential that's affecting you: the shot's nothing to do with mutts, it's everything to do with furthering (pandering to?) Fred's shoe fetish! Tantalising half-shoes!!!!!!!! What more can anyone want? How kind and therapeutic of Toke to help out in this way.

;-)

Bob, I like very much how you grade the tones in general in your pictures. Good works.

Thank you Fred, much appreciated.

Talking about shoes, I took this shot a couple of days ago on the way to work. I'm sure there is an interesting story behind the shoes and dress…

I like mice.

Rob C

I usually don't like this large variety, we see them in our neighbourhood as well when we leave the bird food out too long  :(

Here's another street (or should I say bus) shot.

Karni Mata is the rat temple and definitely something different from your normal tourist site. Perhaps the eigth wonder of the world? No shoes are allowed in the temple so I suggest if you go there you take an extra pair of socks that you can throw out.

Tom, Thanks. I'm happy. There are some really quite good street shots in this thread. Wish I could have come back from the Gulf Coast with some good street stuff, but it wasn't to be. As I explained to Slobodan, instead of street photography I had to settle for beach photography.

Rats are very capable and intelligent creatures.

Many years ago I constructed a bird-bath from about eight feet of conduit tubing and a plastic tray. I planted the structure in a cement base in the garden, about two feet from a hedge. To my surprise, I watched a rat climb up the tube, which I had imagined impossible, reach out and swing himself up and over onto the tray. His dismount was even more simple: he leaped into the hedge.

I suppose that jumping from an unsteady and swinging branch would be far more dangerous than landing on it.

Watching a lot of documentaries, I have come to the conclusion that as a species, we are not so hot when it comes to things physical. Our power to weight ratio isn't so wonderful.

Rob,

Last week I saw a documentary from Africa on detecting landmines by using rats …and I mean big rats. More on the topic here:

Thanks for the contributions.

Thirty years ago, a group of musicians and political activists came together to form Rock Against Racism. Elvis Costello played at the 100 000 strong London rally, it was an event I will never forget. The English sure know how to do eccentric.

Unfortunately the B&W  negatives from this year long trip were overexposed or overdeveloped, leaving dense, grainy TRI-X negatives. Around seven years ago I used my Nikon 990 to slide scan the negatives. These images are the originally process shots given another treatment using Photoshop CS5.

Thanks for the link, Tom; I knew those rats were bright! Thinking about it, our (as species) biggest basic survival failure seems to be based in our weak sense of smell. So much of survival seems rooted in that sense, from finding stuff to eat that's buried in sand (been watching bears find shellfish) to knowing what's lurking in the bushes. We generally have to see it to believe it. Hmmm...

Ciao -

Nothing wrong with street shooting at the beach:

(Btw, shot from the street)

From the ramp. I just remembered these three shots from my trip to South Australia. A not so friendly goose.

You should be able to work out where my feet were.

Your last shot is a fine example of a Stealth Bomber at work.
