Share your capture one/RAW workflow!

(I don't have one that's why I am asking you. I would like to learn from you all...)

Do you use Capture one with Lightroom or Photoshop?

Thanks!

I use C1-V5 for raw conversion and the major adjustments and output to PS CS5 for further refinement, i.e. regional and local adjustments and for soft proofing and printing. Most of my work is in landscape photography.

I may change this workflow once I have had the time to work with C1-V6.

Are you looking for a step-by-step workflow? This would be different for each photographer, due to personal preferences and habits. I find that my workflow changes slightly with different projects and output requirements.

FWIW, I use C1pro 6 with CS4. In general I process in C1; (set basic exposure white point and black points, some local adjustments, clarity, limited sharpening, minor colour adjustments) output as 16bit Tiff and do more in ACR and PS. Printing is done from PS.

Secondly as C1 V6 has many addition features not available in earlier versions. Most are likely still experimenting with these to see how C1 now fits into their workflow. Probably, why you haven't received many replies.

BTW I work mostly in industrial and commercial areas for use in technical pubs, brochures and exhibits.

I hope you're coming to our training in March.

http://www.captureintegration.com/our-company/upcoming-events/

It's 10 minutes from you, costs less than $100 including lunch, and I don't like to brag*, but I like to think we know a thing or two about Capture One.

*that's a lie

Also, one line very general questions never receive as many or as thorough of replies as more detailed or specific requests for help. The question here is very close to asking "Please teach me how to use Photoshop" or "which is better: camera X or camera Y" or "my mac is broke - how do I fix it?" - it's not that the community here isn't eager and able to help with questions; it's that there is a certain assumption of equal participation in the question/answer process.

If the question doesn't show an effort to place a context/reason/specifics to the question then it is often ignored by most veteran forum members. If you're new to forums this is not obvious at all. It's far far better to include in such a question some information on what sorts of things you shoot, what your current workflow looks like, and what you see as the problems in your current workflow you're hoping to overcome. This is not meant as a criticism or a dressing-down of Haring; I've met him and he's a good guy. I'm just explaining the politics/subtly of this and most other forums so that he and others will get better help.

It's shameless as a plug I know - but I don't think there is anyway to answer such a general question as to attend a one day intensive workshop as I posted above.

Been working on it all day. Actually I worked on it longer than that but fell victim to a hard drive failure while traveling and lost several days of work (before that was backed up). In the meanwhile feel free to call our main office 404-522-7662 if you have questions about one of the events.

You can also see our syllubus for our last workshop in Atlanta.

We are revamping the curriculum based on feedback from this event, but it won't be drastically different so this page will give you a decent idea of what will be covered.

OK, thanks Doug. So it looks like the C1 part is only 1.5 hours in the morning, is that correct, from 10-11:30? You guys sure do get a late start. And is the 1.5 hours with C1 in the evening included in these classes? If so that would make a total of 3 hours of C1, is that accurate? Trying to figure out if it is worth two days of driving to attend just for the C1 stuff...

Based on feedback from the last workshop the schedule for upcoming classes will include somewhere around 6 hours specifically on Capture One. We also tweak the schedule at any given event to those that RSVP.

More than likely we will also split the afternoon into two groups - one for fashion/portrait/wedding/street/generalist shooters and one for architecture/interior/landscape/product/table-top/still-life as they have very different needs.

We may also start at 9am, but the 10am has made it more practical for people who are, e.g. 3 hours away, to drive in that morning rather than having to arrive the night before. Going to 7pm is meant to offset the "late start" and provide a "full day". We've considered going longer, but honestly we find most attendees are pretty drained after 9 straight hours of technical training with only a break for lunch, and again it allows a pretty wide geographic area that can return that night.

We put a lot of thought into how to best run these trainings and I very much believe you'll find it to be well worth your time. We offer a money back guarantee (class is $99) but I realize your main concern is the drive.

All still being tweaked and finalized. Hope to have the revised/final schedule for the upcoming workshops early next week.

OK, great - that schedule sounds a LOT better, especially splitting the afternoon stuff up.

We try to evolve and improve!

The suggestion for a split afternoon came from an attendee and it was one of those "aha" moments.

Flash duration is incredibly important to fully understand (much more complicated topic than most assume) - but only if you use flash.

Understanding Scheimflug, LCC, and hyperfocal focusing is very important - but mostly for landscape/architecture etc.

So splitting into interest groups for part of the afternoon will allow us to cover more material relevant to each attendee.

If you stay anywhere north of Miami you must have a death wish to get there by 9AM unless you set out at 5AM!  ;D

Apologies to the original poster, but i'd like to ask a related question if i may.
Having looked at Capture Integrations C1 training, I am wondering who is best placed to teach C1 in-depth in the UK?
Many thanks,
Scott

Haring poses a potentially interesting question. And now that Doug got his usual sales pitch out of the way, I too would be very interested in others' workflow. I use COP 6 and then PS CS5. I set exposure, white point/black points, local adjustments, clarity, sharpening, color adjustments, output as 16bit tiff in COP and in PS, I do fine curve and histogram tuning, maybe more sharpening (if needed). I print (Epson 11800) using ImagePrint v8.

The curriculum for our Serious Technical Training series featuring Capture One has been solidified.

Please see our upcoming Miami Capture One Training page to view details.
