Leaf Capture 11.4.5 Released! New features for Aptus-II 12 users
« on: February 15, 2011, 06:37:36 am »

Version Highlights:

Leaf Capture 11.4.5 features tethered and portable support for Leaf SensorFlex technology for the Leaf Aptus-II 12, Leaf Aptus-II 12R and for the Leaf AFi-II 12. The new version also enables support for the new AFi-II 12 digital back.

The release of this key feature means that when shooting tethered or to CF memory cards Aptus-II 12, Aptus-II 12R and AFi-II 12 users will now be able to choose their cropping dimensions from a range of standard pre-set formats before the shooting even begins. Leaf SensorFlex enables photographers to easily set the dimensions and file sizes that are most suited to their work.

The range of cropping sizes that Leaf SensorFlex technology now enables for Leaf Aptus-II 12, Aptus-II 12R and AFi-II 12 users includes:
• Full size - 80MP (10320 x 7752 pixels)
• 4:3 - 60MP (8952 x 6712 pixels)
• 14:9 - 60MP (9856 x 6088 pixels)
• 1:1 - 60MP (7752 x 7752 pixels)

That's great!
Can you tell us how the sensorflex affects the frame rate of the back?  For example if I were to shoot 1::1 on the AFi-12, would the frame rate be faster than the quoted 1.5 secs / frame?
Thanks,
Eric

Edit - I see that this information is in the release notes:  20% faster....

I should have checked "system requirements" before waiting for all the bits falling out of the cable - any plans for a Windows 7-64 version? Can really live with C1, but wanted to have a look  ;D

Andreas or Yair,

Is the app 32-bit (which will run on Win7 64-bit) or does the app refuse to run in Win7-64 bit (like the Leaf Raw Converter)?

It's Mac-Software, so not installing/running on any Windows...

Hello Yair,

What are the respective picture areas in mm on the sensor for these various crops?

This seems to be a great feature, especially if it's also available when shooting untethered to CF cards as well as tethered. It addresses one of my major concerns about this back (which I have ordered): that i don't always need the grand - sized slower-loading 80 MP files for everything I shoot.

Thanks, Neil

Let me add: there is 11.2.9 beta for Windows - installer doesn't start on 64 bit, only info, that installation not possible. So we (windows people) must stay with C1 (OK, not really a problem  ;D).

Leaf has this strange habit of disallowing running on Win64.  Even if resources are not available to test, a simple dialog warning "proceed at your own risk" would be preferable to this.  Win64 is designed to run 32-bit applications seamlessly--it is difficult to think of a reason to inconvenience users like this (I've been bitten on two separate occasions with Leaf Raw Converter not running on Win64).

Please, Leaf, relax these OS requirements a bit?

Well, in case they also install some drivers (firewire or camera), then there IS a difference between 32 and 64 bit - a really messy one (in case you ever added the wrong driver, you know what I mean - I once added 64 bit printer driver to 32 bit XP, no fun...)... Anyway - it's only a beta, so keeping C1 might be the better solution  ???

Hi Neil

60MP 4:3 uses 46.6mm x 34.9mm and will give you a print size of 75.45cm x 56.83cm @ 300dpi
60MP 1:1 uses 40.3mm x 40.3mm and will give you 65.63cm x 65.63cm
60MP 14:9 uses 51.3mm x 31.7mm and will give you 83.45cm x 51.55cm
80MP 4:3 (full size) uses the whole 53.7mm x 40.3mm and gives 87.38cm x 65.63cm

Yair, would you add the spf recycle times, please?

2.5 second per frame after the first 5 frames?

Is this true?

1.5 sec/ frame tested by me on a 645DF with an MBP (CD2 3.0Ghz, 8GB RAM, 7,200RPM hybrid drive) and a Sandisk Extreme IV

Quote
Is this true?

If you shoot 80MP and keep your finger down you'll have a burst of 5 frames @ 1.5 spf and then it'll slow down to a sustained speed of 2.5 spf

If you select one of the 60MP modes you'll have a burst of up-to 14 frames* @ 1.5 spf followed by a similar sustained speed. In 1 minute you'll get 29* frames instead of 25*.

Yair,

Just to clarify then - if I set the back to 1::1  then will it still be 1.5 secs/frame?   From your post it looks like the advantage is longer bursts, but is there no savings between frames?  Where's that 20%?

A second question I have is are there any IQ improvements tied with the new release?

Thanks,
Eric

In one minute (or one hour or whatever) on average you get 20% more images but the deeper bursts are a huge gain for some.

If you're talking about algorithms etc. then that's software now not firmware
