Lithium-ion battery for Profoto Acute 600b battery pack question
« on: February 14, 2011, 12:11:32 pm »

Has anyone here purchased the new lithium-ion battery for the Profoto 600b battery pack? Profoto purports that it lasts 4 times longer than the older lead-acid battery but it's also almost $400 more than the older batteries that are still available.

If anyone has any experience with the new battery or even the new Acute2 600b and would care to share I'd appreciate it.

TIA

I am curently using " wheelchair" batteries in my Profoto 600B(R) packs. They do not last as long as the original batteries, maybe a 10% less but only cost 29,95$. They perfectly fit into the original top-casing from the profoto battery and if one needs to use more than one (without having enough casings) one can simply attach a connector with a double switch to bypass the inserted battery in the flashpack and attach the second battery outside with a Phone or other connector available in every hardware store.

I've been replacing my 600b batteries with off-the-shelf Werker brand cells for awhile but what I'm wanting to know is if the new Lith-Ion is worth $650. I can buy 2 brand new Lead-acid Profoto 600b batteries for $500 and have my assistant carry them. If the $650 battery has the robustness of a 7b battery I might shell out the additional cash.

We used a B3 with lithium battery and 2 7B with lead acid batteries on a shoot. The lead-acid batteries needed to be replaced during the shooting. After the shooting the lithium battery still showed as full. I guess the results with the Pro line should be comparable to the Acute 600B.
