HP Z3200 44" Pricing
« on: February 14, 2011, 05:22:58 am »

Does anybody know of any place in Canada where you can buy one of these for a price close to what they're selling for in the US?

FYI:

Best price I've found in the US = $2199

Best price I've found in Canada = $5900 (Ouch!!)

Thanks.

Just order one from the US, or at least get a quote.  You may be surprised at how reasonable freight charges can be.  I did have to pay an entry preparation fee of $175 plus GST costs by the customs brokerage , but I get the GST back. I was peeved that HP and Canon were not doing any rebates in Canada and the price in the US was way cheaper even without the rebates which I could not get anyways as I am in Canada.

I'm waiting for a quote from Atlex at the minute - fingers crossed. There's always the concern though about warranties - I don't know if HP Canada will honor the warranty of a product originating in the US.

I can accept a difference of a couple of hundred bucks...heck, even a thousand dollars all things considered (being very generous)...but a difference of almost $4k is...quite frankly...an abomination of unprecedented proportions...even taking into account that well worn argument of 'economies of scale.' HP should hang its head in shame.

I purchased my IPF8300 from the US had it shipped to a border storage company and went and got it myself with a rented truck.  I cleared the printer myself through customs saving $150 brokerage fee.  The forms are dead simple to fill out.  They had a computer with a guide book on what to do.  It took all of 5 minutes to fill out.  I even got an import/export number through the government of Canada website.  Again, very easy to do.

That was my plan A, but the freight shipping was very reasonable and I am 7 hrs from the border, plus the printer may have not fit in my truck stress.  I think I could have done the paper work myself as well instead of using a third party brokerage, but I did not have time to figure that out at the time.

Best price in Australia = $12,100 :(

Seeing the Aussie dollar is around parity with the USD, how do you think we feel?
I bought my Z3100 44 near launch for 14,000 in Australia!

Atlex.com - here's the link.

$2199 for the standard 44"
$2499 for the postscript version 44"

Use 'Add to cart' to see the real price.

[I'm beginning to think that the rest of the world has to pay over the odds in order to keep the US price so low ;)]

 ;D

I had to registered to this forum to say "THANKS!" for the original poster for this deal.

If you check with itsupplies dot com (same company as altex.com), they are selling the Z3200ps for 2399 with free freight delivery in the US.

I'm planning to have it freight delivered to a UPS warehouse for holding until I pick it up on arrival.  (also coming back to toronto)

How on earth can these prices be this low?

Has anyone actually bought a Z3200 printer at these prices? Is there a catch? ;)

Yeah the catch is, it's most likely a type-o, especially since they have the 24" for a grand MORE (normal price).

No it isn't. I've had similar figures quoted from a number of different sources. As a result of aggressive selling, sometimes combined with specific promotions (in the US at least), the 44" is available (for now) at a price point well below the 24".

It's NOT a typo... I have a printed confirmed invoice and UPS tracking number indicating it's on it's way.

As Buckshot mentioned, there's some really aggressive discounting on the 44 inch model where they are just cheaper than the 24 inch models.  (by quite a bit!)

It's Christmas in March, folks  ;)  Get it while you can!

This sort of less than half price sale has usually been a clearance sale as a precursor to a new model replacing the old one. I found the same pricing at Itsupplies and B&HPhoto so it is definitely an HP factory approved pricing.

Any new product news?

Find out how much it weighs and check with Quantas or other air carriers to find out how much it would be to send it air freight.  Also find out how much it would be if it was part of your "luggage".   Might be worth a round trip flight to the US.

And I know the following may sound silly, but...... I knew a guy who had to regularly fly with many (10-15) large cases  (say 2ft x 2ft x 4ft)  of film and video, lighting and audio equipment 20 years ago.  He told me that he'd load them all up in his small truck and head for the airport.   He'd go to the curbside baggage checkin and ask one of the baggage handlers for help.  He'd tell him what flight he was on, open the back of the truck, ask if he could get these checked onto the flight, and then hold out a $100 tip.   Nine times out of ten, he said the baggage handler would check them all in and he'd not be charged anything additional.  Might not work today, with all the security requirements, etc, but it worked for him back then.
