FS O'CONNOR TRIPOD and CLAWBALL + Gitzo head
« on: February 09, 2011, 01:47:19 pm »

WOOD IS GOOD. This tripod is an O'Connor pro 35, with detachable (fast-pins) aluminum spreaders. I ordered the 120mm "clawball" from O'Connor with a 3/8"stud on top to fit my tripod heads. It is the most sturdy field tripod I have ever used. I have had owned a lot of pods and still own a baby RIES C100 but they all are wimps compared to this. I weigh 190lbs and have hung on it at full extension. The Clawball allows very fast leveling and is rock solid. These were designed to have an O'Connor fluid head (I think he invented the fluid head) on them and then a 35lb motion picture camera. Walt Disney put O'Connor on the map as the best of the best.(Read the history here http://www.ocon.com/company0/chadoconnor.html )

The Tripod weighs 11lbs without the spreader and clawball
The spreaders weigh 3.5lbs and are fully adjustable with an additional lock at full extension.
The Clawball weigh's 1lb

With the spreaders attached and fully extended the tripod ht range is from 32"- 62" with them fully retracted the ht range is 38"- 65".

The tripod has two sets of stainless steel spikes of which one set is retractable.

Today the closest you could get to this would be their 35l with spreader at about $2500.00 @ BH etc.

The Gitzo head is a low profile P.L.5. 3 way pan tilt, the predecessor to the Rationnelle G1570. It weigh's 3.5lbs and is rated for a 25lb camera. The P.L.5. is a little beefier than the G1570 with a better lock on both the pan and level.

Tripod, Clawball and spreader $375.00
Gitzo PL5 $175.00
whole kit with green canvas bag $500.00
