Perfect monitor for enjoying photos
« on: February 07, 2011, 08:29:48 pm »

Hi guys,

Which monitor to fully enjoy the photos I shot with my new Sony A55? (and learning to edit them in Lightroom) I mean that I don't need great color accuracy because most of the shots are not intended for printing, yet I'd like to watch great pictures with gorgeous colors.... What should be the priorities for the choice of the monitor? the highest definition possible? Wide color gamut? Factory calibration in Adobe RGB(like in Dell 2410, 2711..)
Glossy coating or not? I will not use it for video or games.
I'm thinking about the new Apple displays, but they are not wide gamut, and till now, I have never watched a good wide gamut display.... and what about the Dell with Premier Color? My budget is around 1.500$, some other models that fit my needs....
Thank you!!!

NEC PA241W-BK or PA271-BK if you want more screen and can tolerate small dot pitch (great for photo editing not so good for over 40 eyes  ;D )

The NEC PA271W with the SpectraViewII Colorimeter and Software.

B & H have a good deal available at present of $1,409.95 US. You have to add the item to the cart to see the special price.

Beautiful monitor, the colours will blow you away and it has a very accurate sRGB Emulation mode for non colour managed web sites etc. Text is small but on web pages I just Ctrl + to zoom it up.

Thank you both for your fast answers! These two NEC look like great... but what about the 2690WUXI2? Yes I know it's the older version, "only" 1920x1200, no Display Port and only 8 bit color processing, but for the moment I will not take advantage of the billion color because I'll take a Macbook pro or a Mac mini, and they don't process 10 bit color, right? Only the Mac Pro I think... I'm in Italy and the street price of the 2690 is quite cheap..1000$ or even less on ebay..
Is the 2690 still good compared to the PA241 and 271?
Thank you very much again!

I've had 2690 and a 3090 for some time.

The 2690 is still a very fine monitor in my opinion.
