please help make a list of all factors involved in WYSIWYG
« on: February 03, 2011, 02:40:36 pm »

I wondered about all the factors invovled in trying to get what you see in your monitor to look exactly like what you see on the PRINT. I would like to start a list of all these things because sometimes people think that all you need to do is to calibrate your monitor and everything should be fine. But, sometimes, it's not. Sometimes, lighting in the room causes the printed image to not look like what is on the monitor. so let me start with a few:

-calibrating the monitor
-qulaity and type of the monitor
-editing room light -ambient light conditions inside the room
-temperature of print viewing light
-quality of the paper profiling

I would add:
Your skill at soft proofing.
The choice of paper.

Not sure I understand...at first glance I would say that what you see on your monitor is PRECISELY what you see on your screen.  :)

....but certainly you must mean that the image on your display looks exactly like your PRINT. right?

I'm sure one could outline a basic checklist of what it takes....but to come up with an actual recipe for achieving that? Good luck! ;)

I just finished reading Rob Sheppards 'latest' Epson printing book.
While good, it is pretty basic, and he simply makes general assessments of how to get good prints. Rob does make one very good point in the beginning, that while all the profiling and calibration  and WYSIWYG is fine and needed to get you to a essential starting point, the only real way to achieve your final satisfactory (to you) result, is to print, print, and print again. Each time taking the pains to determine tweaking adjustments in PP to get to where you want to be with your final printed image.

Of course that methodology probably helps Epson sell alot of consumables. ;) ::)
