Epson 9900 - color shift after replacing Cartridge -
« on: February 03, 2011, 12:02:31 pm »

Hi Guys,
I've just replaced the Light Gray in my Epson 9900 and after a while i started
noticing slight color shifts (towards Green). The overall system was calibrated with
the SP and custom icc where created with Profile Maker.

Are those two connected?
Has anyone ever experience that?

Thanks,

G

Before doing anything, run a thorough cleaning and nozzle check and look for any clogging in either the magenta or possibly orange ink. While the light K ink is not perfectly neutral, it's highly unlikely that any batch-to-batch change in this ink would cause a noticeable color shift.

Its not expected. Yesterday I was printing targets to measure (testing printing paths). Then I got a low ink warning and since I was done printing the tests, I decided to add the new ink (Light Cyan). Printed another target and compared the before and after. The differences were tiny (far less than 1dE on the worst patch).

Epson advises to gently rotate the cartridges before installing them to ensure that all the constituents of the ink are properly suspended. Just in case the OP didn't do this, I wonder if that could be a source of the difficulty.

There's over 20ml of "old" ink in the 9900's print head lines, so the ink change so or so shouldn't make any difference.

Good point.

There's been a recent thread on the list regarding a drastic color/contrast shift that finally got narrowed down to a LK or LLK cart replaced with the other ink. Somehow, the wrong cart made it into the keyed slot and until the user looked, he was baffled. He still is baffled why the cart fit, but found the problem, purged out the ink and is now printing fine.

If there is a drastic shift in color/contrast, it may be worth the look. In any case, I would probably pull the cart you just replaced and give it a shake, just in case!
