Places to go in Late Feb?
« on: January 18, 2011, 09:32:09 am »

Hey Guys,

My wife yesterday told me that she wants to plan 5 days at the end of February for my birthday (my choice of location). Last year we spent 10 days in Yellowstone which was wonderful. This year I have no clue where to go. I really want a good location for landscape shooting.

So here is my question to you. If you could go anywhere in the US (lower 48 states) in late Feb where would you go?

I have a couple of ideas brewing right now. White Sands is one that she mentioned

Death Valley.  Hands down.  Weather, scenery, variety, easy access (from Vegas, baby) and spirituality.

White Sands is nice, but limited in scope.  DV is limitless.

I like the DV call.  How about Joshua Tree or the Fla keys?

Another vote for Death Valley.
I agree that White Sands is nice, but limited. Also, it is usually closed a couple of days each week when the military does maneuvers.
Joshua Tree is great, but still not in the league with Death Valley.

I like the Death Valley recommendation, too, and will be there myself in March.  There are lots of message threads here on DV so use the search function to find them.

You don't mention where you normally go to photograph landscape, but if you have mainly photographed in alpine locations,  DV will be a totally different experience.

Join me in Yosemite, that's where I'll be :)

But... Death Valley is definitely appealing. I was there last March on a workshop with JP Caponigro and got some great stuff!
