ipf8300 ink usage stats
« on: January 17, 2011, 08:53:27 am »

The Jobs on Printer accounting pages show that printing has used 220 mL of ink in the 3 mo. I've had my 8300. However, the "File/Show Ink & Paper Consumed" gives total ink consumed as 718 mL. Is this roughly 500 mL discrepancy about what one should expect? How much of it is from charging the lines and how much is from any automated head cleaning? I leave the printer on all the time, as I do some printing at least every week, and have not yet needed to manually run a head cleaning operation. Thx

IIRC, you lose about 20% to charging the lines. If I had to guess I'd say the account page is showing actual ink that went through the print heads, and the ink & paper consumed page is showing how much has come out of the cartridges.

This is just a guess though. You should try asking over at the Canon iPF Wiki too. http://canonipf.wikispaces.com/message/list/FAQ

I would agree, I have recently printed about 550 large prints and I'm extremely happy with the small amount of ink used.  From what I have figured out the cost is about 21 cents or so per sq ft ink costs.  Of course I'm using the 700 ml ink carts.  But so far I have not had one issue with it.  Its amazing.  Tim

~500ml for the initial setup sounds right. To really get a feel for the difference between ink spent on printing and ink waste due to cleaning and nozzle checks, compare the same results in a month or so. comparing those results to this week's results, you'll be able to calculate the ink on paper usage and ink waste separate from your one time initialization usage.

From what I've seen, the ink waste is hugely reduced from what we initially saw from the x000 printers and the new PF-05 print head lifespans appear to be dramatically extended. Super high volume shops that replaced their x100 print heads regularly are surprised that they haven't seen a single head replacement yet on their x300 machines despite heavy usage. Canon says their PF-05 print heads are fine tuned for the new inkset to a level that we've never seen before and that appears to be paying off in terms of lifespan and clogging issues (which are pretty darn rare).

Right, thanks. Makes sense. Also glad to hear the 500 for initial setup is par for the course. Otherwise been very happy with the beast.
