monitor suggestions....?
« on: January 10, 2011, 09:21:52 am »

my mitsubishi 2060u has finally reached its limit, won't give enough luminance with i1 2 display so should I stick with crt's or go for lcd....good ones go for $1400 ? I saw that the nec and hp were highly rated, the hp more so....

thanks

NEC PA241.  Just got one in Friday, and it is really nice.  Got mine from B and H Camera.  it was cheaper to buy the monitor and Spectraview calibration package separate than to buy the package deal.  Calibration was a breeze.  Don't think you can get a better package for the money.

NEC PA241.

Agreed (unless you want something larger, like the PA271W).

There are probably some old stock LCD2690uxi2's and LCD2490uxi2's floating around at significant savings.. and there's not much wrong with either..

Ok Andrew, you are advocating an lcd over crt at this point in time ? I have been following you (digital dog) since I started to color manage 10 yrs ago and of course I respect your opinion as well as the others who responded....and why the nec over others ?

decision made just ordered the 27" thanks to all !

You should be blown out of the water with the PA271w compared to what you were using. I recently picked one up and am impressed and I'm on an Eizo cg211 or cg241w everyday.

I have for a long time, considering CRTs haven’t been made in years. And max out at 21” etc.

I recently retired my 2060u and purchased the PA271w with Spectraview II. I am very happy with my decision. You will be glad too that you chose 27".

yep, I just got the i1 2 display so I guess I'll be using that for the nec, don't know if it makes sense to return it and get the spectraview

I cannot speak to the i1 display but the Spectraview II is unbelievably easy to use. And, it is really simple to switch profiles in case you want to browse using srgb or otherwise. I use a Canon iPF6350 printer and I couldn't ask for a better match between the screen and color prints.

If your device is one of the supported devices on this document, you can buy the Spectraview software only and use your device.  I think it is $80 or $90.  the software allows you to calibrate to and save settings with different white points, luminance and contrast and allows you to switch between these by just clicking on the one you want to use.

I think I am going to buy a PA271W and the Spectraview II.  Yay! :)

I can source the monitor here in Switzerland, but I can't seem to find the Spectraview II.  Have any of you bought this in Europe?  I can't find it on the UK website either.
