Medium Format

Hello all..
Im new to medium format cameras, i have been shooting Dslr..
So i want to get a decent MF camera and i would need help. I know this topic has been probably chewed to death in this forum so please forgive me

My options at this point are:
KIEV 60 for about 200$
Mamiya M645 with Sekor C - 2.8/80 mm (broken prizm) for 150$
and Mamiya RB 67 PRO -S (500$)

i need something nice, good with ha hot shoe that i will use in studio enviorment.
What are the pros and cons for M645 towards a double priced RB67?

And can anyone tell me how do i shoot an M654 without a prizm?

All of the systems you listed are vastly different from each other....

Instead of looking at the prices to determine your system, take a moment instead to decide what features you need/want and pick based on that.

Do you have a used camera store locally you could try some options in person?

All would be ebay or 2ndWebStores..
I would need good sharpens, and Manual control.. i mostly do studio portrait work.
The most available for me now would be the 645..
at this point i dont have money for the rb67..
So my main issue is should go for the 645 with broken prisma or wait a cupple of months for the RB
Im trying to find info on net.. but all is kind of confusing since im new to MF

It sounds like price is an utmost concern.  My advice based on what I'm reading here would be to go for the Mamiya 645.  However, I would not recommend starting out with broken gear, simply because it's what you can afford at the moment.  If you need to wait to be able to afford a good condition unit, then I highly recommend doing so.  You'll be much happier in the long run with a trouble-free shooting experience.

Can you shoot a Mamiya 645 without a prisma? what does this mean?
And what does it mean that the Mamiya 645 does not have exchangabel backs?
This 2 things are quite confusing..

Hi,

The prism is the viewfinder. With a broken prism you may not get a decent viewfinder image, that would be hard to use.

Some cameras, like the Hassellad or the Mamiya RB have an exchangeable back. That means that you can change film midroll. Also that means that it would be easy to fit a digital back, but I suppose that this is not a factor in your calculations right now.

Pentax 67 and 645 may also be nice options.

Hi,

The RB 67 has a larger format (6x7 instead of 6x4.5)
The RB 67 has a removable back that can be rotated for horizontal or vertical. With the 645 you would rotate the camera.
I also think that RB 67 has leaf shutter while 645 has focal plane shutter. Leaf shutters work better with flash in some circumstances.

A Mamiya with broken prism may be not very usable...

why MF? If you can only afford a $150 camera, maybe save the money. Why do you need MF? Pro work?
