Lightroom 3 crashed wont work

Hi everyone please can anyone help me with this problem, I have been using Lightroom 3 for severall months now with no problems at all then suddenly its crashed. Every time I start the program I get an error message stating that a runtime error raw.001.ercat then windows shuts it down. Could it be due to a virus or do I have some other problem that I can solve?

Any help is much appreciated especially since I have over 5000 images cataloged in Lightroom.

You don't say what, if anything, you've tried. Deleting your preferences file is a good start which often works. Then you could re-install the application. Back up your LR database first.
