More Horsey Stuff
« on: December 20, 2010, 08:55:28 am »

I'm afraid there is still a very horsey theme running along here, this time with two frames from the Ladock Horse Trials in September. The second one is just a snapshot, really, and for the first one I asked the subject to pose for me, rather than taking a candid. Which she did in a very charming fashion. These young women are quite something, actually - you should see the course that they have to ride around. It is very long, very hilly, muddy and wet in places with some serious jumps. And very, very dangerous, if you fall and the horse comes down on top of you. Rather them than me, that's for sure.

You've got a very good eye, John, both for the posed and for the unposed. Both very expressive and well composed.

Hello John: #1 is excellent with two horses matched with two lovely lassies. And if my snapshots were as well balanced as #2 I would be a happy camper.
Have a nice Xmas

Eric and Dick

Many thanks for your feedback. There is, of course, an awful lot of luck involved in shots like this, just as much as there might be skill or judgement. But you do have to have the skill to make the most of your luck when it happens.

The other thing I had to do here, with picture #1, was to gain that young lady's trust in an instant. I was just as pleased that I managed to do that, as I was with the finished print. As I mentioned in another thread somewhere, this was again one of those times when I took only the one frame for both shots, never even bothered to check the histogram, and just walked on . . .

I prefer #2. The look on the horse's face is priceless.
