Pittsburgh, PA. at night; Gigapan
« on: December 16, 2010, 06:41:00 pm »

This is my first post.
A Gigapan is a panorama with a minimum of 50 megapixels.
You can see it HERE
Give it a few seconds to fully load and then use the zoom and pan features.  You can also click on one of the "snapshots"
This was made with a D3s & 24-70 f/2.8, it's thirteen photos stitched in Photoshop CS5.

Very nice image. My only problem with gigapan images is how addictive it is just scrolling around and looking at stuff. Another 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back again.

Yeh, but it's a nice way to display a pano.

A Gigapan is a panorama with a minimum of 50 megapixels.
Interesting definition. The prefix "giga" might lead the uninitiated and naive to assume that the image has a minimum of 1,000 megapixels (perhaps even of 1,024).

Why 50?

GigaPan does NOT mean at least 50MP, I have no idea how you came to that conclusion?  It's for images one gigapixel and up.  Being from Pittsburgh myself I do know CMU, NASA and Google have something to do with it.
