z3100 and Airport Express
« on: December 14, 2010, 09:09:19 am »

Using Mac OS10.6.5 I am trying to connect my Z3100 44inch via Airport Express. The printer shows up under Print & Fax in the System Preferences, and also in the
HP Print Utility, but with message that the "selected device is unavailable".

The Mac is about 7 metres from the Airport Extreme, and connected via USB to the printer.

Hard wiring via Ethernet is not a problem.

Has anybody had any experience with wireless printing on the z3100 and could offer some suggestions.

Thanks

David

I had no luck with wireless connection to the z3100.   I use ethernet directly from the computer to printer.  (I had only intermittent luck with USB, also).

I have successfully used the airport express to get wireless form my airport extreme and route the signal to the ethernet on the 3100.  You can use usb, but you'll get print errors with big files, and you cant get realtime status very well.

Set the extreme Participate in a WDS network.  Allow to be extended. as WDS main, allow wireless clients.
Set the express WDS Remote, Allow wireless clients. Participate in a WDS
